Excursions with
the Bike
The areas of the Mondseeland are ideal for exploring by bike: There are a total of 1000 km of trails available for cyclists and e-bikers throughout the Salzkammergut. In the Mondsee-Irrsee region there are numerous tours for every level. The 26.3 km round of the Mondsee is easy to complete in two hours. Trips to the nearby nature reserve Irrsee or to the Attersee are particularly recommended. The region is also very attractive for enjoyable motorcycle rides.

hiking
Mondseeland
always works
Numerous hiking trails such as the Almwiesenweg, the hiking trails Lebensroa, Almkogel, Schafberg or via the Kreuzstein waterfall to the Eisenaueralm let you feel true connection to nature. Especially recommended is the hike to Kulmspitz with breathtaking panoramas all around. A total of 150km are available. From rolling hills to striking mountains, from places of faith to heavenly nature, everything can be discovered on foot.

climbing
rise to new heights
There’s also plenty to discover for alpinists. The craggy dragon wall offers a via ferrata with a unique backdrop. But beware: the Hirschsteig requires surefootedness, vertigo and experience. On bad weather days, you’ll find a climbing hall right in the village. The Plombergstein in St. Gilgen is also a climbing paradise in the immediate vicinity of Mondsee.
golfing
All Systems green
In the region, the hearts of golf fans beat twice as fast. At the Golf Club am Mondsee, with 18 holes and its own swimming pool, and at the Golf Course Drachenwand, which has been repeatedly voted one of Austria’s most beautiful courses with nine holes. But there is even more reason to rejoice: a total of 16 courses can be reached within 30 minutes by car.

water sports
landing in
the water too
Nothing is closer, because apollo is stationed directly on the water. Hotel guests can enjoy the Mondsee at their own bathing area – for swimming, stand-up paddleboarding, diving, boating, kite-surfing, water skiing, wakeboarding, surfing or sailing. Right next door you can already see the sailboats of the neighboring yacht club rocking in the waves. Because the Mondsee is a true surfing and sailing paradise. The largest surf and sailing school in the German-speaking region imparts nautical knowledge and practice to those willing to learn. In addition to our bathing area, there are many more beaches and natural bathing areas around the Mondsee and the neighboring Irrsee – as well as a total of 70 lakes in the vicinity.
summer luge
down the mountain
It’s fun for the whole family: blast your toboggan across a winding metal run. A summer toboggan run with views of the beautiful Wolfgangsee can be found in Strobl, just under half an hour away. There are two runs, each 1300 metres long.

fishing
From Eel to Zander
everything at the start
From April 1st to November 2nd, it is possible to fish from the shore on Lake Mondsee with a fishing license, and from May onwards even day and night. A maximum of two rods and five hooks or a daily catch of four fish are permitted. Lake Mondsee is particularly famous for its population of whitefish and char. However, other fish species such as eels, perch, trout, pike, carp, various whitefish and zander also make for great fishing. A little tip: the neighboring, natural Irrsee lake is particularly popular with anglers – and fishing is possible here all year round.

Tennis
Matchpoint Mondsee
The Mondsee region offers perfect conditions for tennis lovers: well-maintained clay courts, indoor facilities for all-weather play, and a stunning backdrop of lake and mountains. After the match, cool off in the lake or relax back at the hotel – the ideal mix of sport and leisure.

excursion tips
Mondsee boat trip
Off into orbit around the lake
With our own excursion ship, apollo MS MONDSEELAND, you can explore the Mondsee by water several times a day. It starts right next to the kiosk apollo LANDING, just steps away from the other apollo operations. On a tour of the turquoise Mondsee you have a unique view of the majestic Schafberg, the mighty dragon wall and the gentle Gugelhupf mountain – especially from the sun deck. It’s always an experience to watch the hustle and bustle of water and land from the ship. And who can claim to have been on board a real apollo ship?
discover the culture
European Capital of Culture 2024
In 2024, in cooperation with 22 municipalities from the Salzkammergut, Bad Ischl has been named the European Capital of Culture – the first time in the initiative’s nearly 40-year history that an inner-alpine, rural-shaped region has been chosen. Over the course of 2024, 150 cultural projects will be implemented. Ranging from theatre to dance to music, the program will see the region’s culture and reputation experience a meteoric rise that will reverberate long after.
places of faith
Heavenly churches and earthly ways
If you want to experience heaven on earth and want to visit religious sites, you will find many paths at Mondsee. The imposing baroque basilica in Mondsee with its imposing high altars invites you to stop and fall silent. On a particularly beautiful square with a magnificent view of Mondsee stands the Hilfsbergkirche. For those who want to take the path of faith even more intensely, the region offers a project of almost biblical proportions: 357 sacred gems have been connected to 32 hiking trails. Those who want to hike all the “places of faith” in Mondseeland must plan for about 90 hours for the 255 kilometers and 10,000 meters of altitude.
lakes in the area
Dive into more than 70 waters
The area of the Salzkammergut includes more than 70 other lakes in addition to the Mondsee. Many of them invite you to swim and stroll. Besides the Mondsee, the most famous are certainly the Attersee, Wolfgangsee, Traunsee and Fuschlsee. But a trip to the neighbouring Irrsee is particularly nice. It is completely protected, the shores are mostly undeveloped, and it offers habitat for many plant and animal species with its bogs and wetlands. The Salzkammergut’s lake is also the warmest and therefore a popular bathing lake – although not as frequented.
City Salzburg
Discover the city of Mozart
For culture and city lovers, or for shopping, we recommend a trip to the city of Salzburg: enjoy a stroll through the Getreidegasse, where you can discover Mozart’s birthplace and the famous chime. Explore the Hohensalzburg fortress with beautiful views of the city, or the Mirabell castle with its famous garden. Or stroll through the old town, with its small cafés and the legendary Fürst, which makes the original Mozart balls. On Pentecost and in summer, the world famous Salzburg Festival is also held here, with opera performances, concerts and the traditional play “Jedermann.”
